MSIE AutoComplete Settings
(Forms, Passwords, Web addresses)

If your having issues with Internet Explorer's Autocomplete feature, maybe the following information might help you fix your problem.

As for registry entries, these are the keys involved where the info is stored, but as you will see they are encrypted. AutoComplete, User Names and Passwords on Forms:

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\IntelliForms\SPW
  • AutoComplete, Web Addresses:

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Protected Storage System Provider\<user name or windows logon name>
Note: Instead of a user name you may see "*Local Machine*" depending on your system configuration.

  • Right click on them and choose Permissions. Check to see if, for the user, a "Deny" box is checked.

Also check these registry entries for a "FormSuggest" entry and delete or set the value to zero "0".

  • User: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ Control Panel]
  • System: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ Control Panel]
  • This key with a value of one will disable Autocomplete for forms. If those don't work, create a new User account and see if that works on the trouble machine.

As for web addresses not autocompleting, in IE go to Tools...Internet Options...Advanced tab, Browsing section and also check "Use inline Autocomplete", click Apply, click Okay.

Autocomplete for web addresses relies on the index.dat super-hidden file in your History folder. From another account w/ admin. privileges, delete the History folder from the troubled profile. More info: http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm
